the ashley version is wonderful, but i'm not sure how i feel about the mix. i'm so used to the original 16-track versions that it just doesn't sound like veneta to me, with that reverb. someone commented it sounds like they're "performing inside a warehouse" and that's kind of what it sounds like to me...

As one who is not particularly an audiophile myself, my advice is to go with the one you think sounds the best.
Trust your own ears! If one sounds better to you than another, then D/L that one, regardless of what the "experts" say. IMO!

I like the Ashley version best, but I'm probably in the minority on that opinion. I think the reverb makes it sound like you were right there at the show. I also think the reverb makes Jerry's playing a little louder which is never a bad thing.

Do you happen to know which version is on nugs.net? Is it one that's also on IA or not?

i *think* the one on nugs is this source, taken from the 2-track instead of the 16-track masters:

Interesting. Does that mean the sound would be clearer from other sources? (I have Veneta and some others from nugs.net; it'd be interesting to compare various sources if I could stream more easily. It's hit or miss here. Today is a public holiday, so I guess lots of people are online and internet is sloooooow. SlowER, that is.)
